Why I Created the BAKE framework

After more than 20 years in management consulting in New York, most recently as a Managing Director, I spent my career helping organizations solve complex problems, build better systems, and make better decisions.

One thing became obvious to me:

Success rarely comes down to intelligence alone. It comes from planning, adapting, communicating, solving problems, and learning from mistakes.

These are executive function skills.

Yet we rarely teach them directly to children.

I started wondering…

What if we could?

Why Baking?

Baking naturally teaches children to:

  • Plan before starting

  • Follow a sequence

  • Organize materials

  • Wait patiently

  • Adapt when things go wrong

  • Fail and have to start again

  • Finish what they started

  • Evaluate the result

Every recipe is a real world project.

framework?

Where It All Began

The idea behind the BAKE framework didn’t start with a course.

It started with a children’s book.

In December 2024, I published Allegra Bakes a Cake, the story of a young girl who wakes up on her birthday and thinks her parents have forgotten her birthday cake.

Instead of giving up, Allegra comes up with a plan. She gathers what she needs, works through the challenges, and bakes her own birthday cake.

By the end of the story, she doesn’t just have a cake.

She has something even more valuable: the confidence that comes from creating it herself.

The book wasn’t really about baking. Or a delicious recipe (which it is!).

It was about planning, problem solving, resilience and independence.

The cake was simply the vehicle.
